PG4 ACTIVE HYDRA FACTOR



PGA active Hydra Factor is composed of a synergistic combination of 7 active ingredients, which are moisturising, humectant and soothing, and improve elasticity.
Every day our skin is subjected to insults and attacks from both inside and outside our own bodies. Lifestyle and diet, the use of harsh soaps, or skin problems such as dermatitis and eczema, all contribute to inflammatory states and skin dryness. PG4 active Hydra Factor is a synergistic combination of powerful natural moisturisers and humectants. It functions as an anti-inflammatory agent and is extremely moisturising, offering long-term protection for sensitive and dry skin types, lasting up to 6 days after the last application.

PCA (or pyrrolidone carboxylic acid) is a naturally-occurring component of the skin’s Natural Moisturising Factor. Its hydrophilic nature, guaranteed by its amino acid structure, means that it functions as a moisturising and conditioning agent, making this an ingredient that is especially well-suited to the formulation of products for skin and hair.

Panthenol, or vitamin B5, is the reduced alcohol form of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). It has moisturising and emollient properties and is therefore widely used in dermo-cosmetic products for dry or irritated skin or haircare products designed to moisturise the scalp. Panthenol is also a calming agent, ideal for the treatment of irritated and sensitive skin (e.g. inflammations from diaper rash, sunburn, etc.).

Trehalose is a disaccharide composed of two glucose molecules. It occurs naturally in fungi, yeasts and in insects capable of surviving in conditions of complete desiccation. Trehalose is, in fact, capable of trapping essential elements such as proteins, nutrients and biological membranes, protecting them from external stress. It protects skin fibroblasts from dehydration by replacing the water that is present in the tissues, protecting skin and hair from the sun and from extreme climate conditions, such as extreme cold and dryness.

Sorbitol is a sugar that exists in many fruits. While it is widely used in the food industry, it is also found in the cosmetics industry, where it is used as a moisturiser and humectant, thanks to its extremely hygroscopic nature. Sorbitol can also be used to prevent the desiccation of a finished product.

Sodium hyaluronate is obtained by combining sodium salt with hyaluronic acid, one of the principal components of connective tissue, capable of binding a high number of water molecules. Once applied to the skin, Sodium hyaluronate forms a thin film that keeps the skin smooth and hydrated, while its smallest particles penetrate into the skin’s subcutaneous layers, reducing the depth of wrinkles. It can hold up to 1800 times more water than its molecular weight.

Glycerine is a humectant and attracts water from the surrounding environment.

Moisturising activity: in vitro testing has shown that PGA active Hydra Factor, reduces skin desquamation and the number of corneocytes, smoothing and softening the skin. In vivo testing has shown that when a formulation containing 2% PGA active Hydra Factor is used, the moisturising effect lasts for up to 6 days after the end of the treatment (7 days). In vivo testing has also proven the ability of PGA active Hydra Factor to drastically reduce the amount of water lost (TEWL) after treatment with an irritating agent.

Anti-inflammatory activity: as a consequence of the tests described above, testing was performed to determine the soothing effects of PGA active Hydra Factor. It was found that it presents a powerful ability to reduce erythematous states.

PGA active Hydra Factor is recommended for use in cosmetic products such as soaps and cleansers, lotions, creams, etc. that are intended to have a powerful moisturising activity.
The recommended percentage of use ranges from 1% to 3% depending on the type of formulation to be developed. As a rule, a 2% concentration is used. Creams containing PGA active Hydra Factor are generally used twice per day. We recommend adding PGA active Hydra Factor at a temperature of less than 50°C, during the cooling phase.
With regard to the clinical safety evaluation of PGA active Hydra Factor, patch testing found the product to be safe and non-irritating at a 2% concentration.
